Payton Eliza”buff” Pulling’s Magical Shoes Sunday, Aug 9 2009

Yes, Payton wears6760_1227412364109_1193043872_30660485_8096791_n magical shoes!

The magical shoes enable her to go hours upon hours without changing diapers, and even when she does make poopy-diapers, the fragrance is sweet!

And when she wants (rather than needs) something from her Honey and Papa, all she has to do is put on the magical shoes: Payton’s wish is Honey’s and Papa’s desire!

And the shoes ward off would-be courtiers.  Without the shoes, the darling little priss would be beset by horrible boys seeking to woo her fancy, but with the shoes, she can kick their behinds to kingdom-come!

(Better her to kick those old boys than her Daddy!  [or her Papa!])

And best of all, Payton can run fast to Papa and Honey with her magical shoes if her Mama and Daddy are too mean or strict with her.

Yes, Payton Eliza”buff” has magical shoes!

Home at last, home at last! Saturday, Aug 8 2009

The Facebook posting record tells it all, beginning last night?

David Pulling . . .

endures the 10:00 AC 360 rerun on CNN, hoping for happy flying weather Saturday and wishing tomorrow evening were this evening. . .

Then on to Saturday morning hanging out at the hotel, waiting for the cab . . .

is having a hurry up and wait morning, ready to go but going nowhere fast. . .

And one more little step closer . . .

continues his hurry up and wait routine, having moved from hotel lobby to airport but still going nowhere fast: what a waste of Saturday! . . .

And a little more progress:

just watched the plane from Houston land, that will turn around and take him back one step closer 2 home, but hurry up and wait remains the norm for the morn.

Those posts stretch out over all of Saturday.  Eventually, of course, I made it to Lafayette, although Continental managed to lose my baggage, at least temporarily (the bag showed up in Lafayette on the next flight, 30 minutes later).

But I did get home in time to enjoy supper with Sarah and Ann, followed by mowing the grass followed by the family taking the dogs to campus.  It’s nice to be home, and thank God for Daylight Savings Time, which enables us to do so much more with the ones we love!

The Mississippi at Memphis: Look, mom. No levee! Thursday, Aug 6 2009

As a runner over the years, I’m proud to have jogged along the Mississippi at both Baton Rouge and New Orleans.  The River at both venues is spectacular, considering the muddy width and rippling current that eddies and boils along.

River at Memphis

River at Memphis

Today I got to jog along the River at Memphis.  The scenery is just as breath-taking as along the lower stretches in Louisiana, which is all the more remarkable in that that the flow seems as deep and wide this far inland as it seems farther south nearer its end.

What’s different in Memphis, compared to Baton Rouge and New Orleans, is the absence of levees.  The tall bluffs rising above the flood make the River more distant, less intimate, than the levee-bound shoreline in Louisiana inhere the River laps just feet below the jogger’s course.

Both perspectives have their merits.   I can’t say the River is any less impressive at Mud Island in Memphis than it is at Algiers Point in New Orleans.   The perspective is  just a little higher here, a little lower there.

What’s sure, whether Memphis’ bluffs or Baton Rouge’s levees,   is that “Old Man River keeps rolling along.”

Flyway Robbery? Wednesday, Aug 5 2009

I’m flying Continental in the morning, Lafayette to Houston to Memphis.  Fare: about $250.MEMPBHX_Hampton_Inn_and_Suites_Memphis-Beale_Street_home_left

Northwest has a direct flight from Lafayette to Memphis.  Fare:  about $700.

Who in the world made these rules?

That orange Ford F-150 . . . and childhood memories Monday, Aug 3 2009

I read daughter Ann’s Facebook post a while ago.  What does she remember about childhood?

ford“Road trips to Covington in that orange Ford pick-up.”

LOL.  I never would have thought of that, but she does.

Why did we (the four of us!) drive to Covington in that pick-up rather than in Mom’s comfortable sedan?

Maybe to pick up firewood?  I don’t remember, but so what and who cares?

The pic here comes from  an ’07 blog post  when I spotted the old truck on the parking lot at WalMart.  I blogged it then as “an old friend.”

Gosh, me and that truck traveled some miles!

Payton can drive! Saturday, Aug 1 2009

Payton can driveMy granddaughter is Super-Granddaughter.   She can do all sorts of things beyond her tender age, . . . like drive.  Here she is at the Cash Magic Truck Plaza in Port Allen after a fill-up on the way home from Baton Rouge this afternoon.  Papa operated the brake and the accelerator and helped her with the steering wheel, but Papa’s big girl was at the wheel for almost 30 feet!

What accomplishments are next for this special child?

Discover the cure for cancer?

Devise the plan for peace in the Middle East that both Israel and the Palestinians will accept?

Bring the factions of Congress together on health insurance reform?

I don’t know, but for sure, I will watch Payton go!
