The Judgment of Solomon: Compelling words, then and now!

An ancient Jewish proverb states the following:

“Do not pay attention to every word people say, or you may hear your servant cursing you–for you know in your heart that many times you yourself have cursed others.”

Why does he have to bring up “the heart?”

How did Solomon know this truth about us?   (“Us” being the safer plural first person, which includes you and me: saying “me” would amount to assuming all the blame on my own, but I’m confident anyone who reads Solomon’s wisdom is as guilty as me–so we use “we!”)

Guilty art thou, o reader, even as I!
